Christmas Wedding Engagement proposal at Campus Martius in Detroit

When a wedding photographer hears, “I’m putting my full trust in you” it’s tine to lock in. When Bobby called to tell me he wanted a photographer in the Detroit to take photos of him proposing to his girl, I knew I had to help. He’s was bringing their family to detroit for his birthday to watch the last Lions game and for an added memory, he wanted to propose to his girlfriend.

He had no idea where to do it, when to do it or how it would all unfold. Since I’m a girl, I’m all in on making it extra special. So we started planning….

They were getting in to Detroit from SOUTH Texas (a.k.a. NOT FREEZING COLD). So the plan went like this:

1. Family meeting with Genevieve
2. Fly to Detroit
3. Get coats, hats, gloves, all the things.
4. Take a walk Downtown Detroit to get a feel for where the Giant Christmas tree is.
5. Tell his girlfriend they had dinner plans the next day, followed by Pistons tickets so she got all dolled up. She clearly understood this assignment.
6. We would keep in close contact when time got close and meet at the rendezvous point I told them to go to.
7. I planned on wearing a Santa hat so they could spot me and they would text me when they got there so we could try and find each other. This last part was trickier than I thought but it worked out. See!!!!

The crowd went wild!!! They instantly created a circle around them to witness it all. Well, expect for the lady in the red coat with the dog that I had to remove out of every photo. The cheering when she said yes was instant Christmas Magic!!! I mean who doesn’t like a good love story + wedding promise during the holiday season.

There were a lot of parts about all this that made me fall in love with them immediately. The first was how important it was for him that he gets this right and does something “really special for her” . Then, It was his birthday! But lastly, that they made it a family affair and brought his boys and her daughter. When I was taking photos of him on one knee and she said yes, his kids were right next to me and all I could hear was His son yelling “heck yeah” through his giggles and her daughter just cheering and it was just… Perfect.

Campus Martius Is magical this time of year so it draws a big crowd the weekend before Christmas. I immediately got them out of there so we could take pictures in a more intimate setting.

Today they are going to the Lions game in hopes that t he Lions pull a Christmas miracle and win their very last season game. Go Lions!!!

Im a wedding photographer in Metro Detroit, that’s what Im supposed to write at this point. But really, I’m a guardian of your memories.
