In-Home Family Photographer – Ann Arbor Michigan

April 3, 2024

About 5 years have passed since I got that first phone call from Richard. He was planning to propose to his girlfriend in Kellogg park and wanted me to get engagement photos of his suprise proposal. Of course, I said yes and it was an electric kind of experience for me.

They got married (becasue she said yes) and a few short years later I got a call about their newborn , Dominic and eventually his first year cake smash. That involved jumping fences and getting messy at one of the local baseball fields in Downtown Plymouth . Needless to say, it was really fun.

Fast forward a few short years I’m invited back to photograph their second newborn, Isabella. Sweet baby Isabela. We did an in-home newborn photo session to welcome her into her new family. To capture a moment that is so full of love and excitement in a family. I have hearwarming momeries of this session where baby brother was excited to be with her all while trying to get some of the attention too. Becasue his world just changed so much.

Fast forward another year and I was invited back for Isabellas cake smash. When I got there, mom told me that they would be moving soon.

She told me that when they think about this cute little nest they had their babies in, they would think about their living room where they spent most of their time. It’s where they would play, and chill and take naps and watch too much TV.

So we took some family pictures before we brought the cake out. They told me what they wanted, I bossed them around their living room, letting them be exactly who they are and got some beautiful lifestyle photos.

The cake smash was just as it should. Isabella took her time getting into the cake just before Dominic showed her exacly how it’s done. Mom and dad eventually got right in there and made it a family feast. Then, in true big brother form, Dominic smashed the cake with his monster trucks becasue that’s how boys do.

I found myself feeling a bit bummed out that they were moving. I know that’s strange but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE getting to witness how families grow. I really buy in to the photography service as a way to remember moments, bring back memories and invoke feelings. I talk about it as a service for my clients but at the end of the day, they are also filling my heart with joy and laughter and hugs. Little brief moments where I get to hug them or high-5 their little ones or hear about their next big plan in life. I know people hear this all the time. But I really do heart my clients . I am lucky to do this work and I do not take it for granted.
