Since I became a professional photographer I have been day dreaming of doing a holiday mini session with an adorned VW bus. This year I decided to try and make it happen. I have to say that finding one was not the easiest thing to do. I kept hitting a bunch of dead ends until someone happily volunteered to let me use his fun , pretty teal blue VW bus…. Color me excited! I found a great location in Grayes greenhouse and started thinking about different props.
Imagine my surprise when 6 days before , Michigan gets hit with a record setting snow storm followed by VW car troubles. These buses are high maintenance so I guess I shouldn’t have been too surprised but let me tell you, I was heartbroken. I tried finding another one, I tried hard. But finding one at the last minute AND driving it in the salt and snow was impossible.
So there I was, lost all hope and trying to figure out how to pull all this together when Eric (the VW owner) sent me an e-mail that he was going to be able to fix it.. ERIC FOR THE WIN! I was irrationally happy about it, thrilled actually. Let me show you why.
Not only was it super cool but the snow, the snow made for the best backdrop. The sun with the snow and the color of that bus made for such a pretty backdrop and everyone that put eyes on it was instantly excited to sit in it.
The whole day was super fun, I mean, I giggled the whole time I was taking photographs. Here’s a fe of my favorites so you now I wasn’t the only one having fun.
The whole day was magic! The sun, the snow, the bus, the people that came. It all happened because one nice guy helped someone he didn’t even know. Meet Eric & Susan, they get to drive around in this ‘fun on wheels’ any time they want.
I can’t wait to do it again next year as long as I find another bus but maybe I will have to buy one…
